With Katie on vacation this week, I was tasked with choosing two new wines to bring into our shelves all by myself. Not wanting to play proverbial "spin the bottle" with a new, untested wine, I decided to bring back two of my favorites from last year to check out the new vintages.
The first is an incredible value wine from one of Italy's most sought after wine power houses - Petra's Zingari ( which means "gypsy"). http://www.petrawine.it/index.html This wine is a collaboration of some of the Moretti family's best grapes - syrah, petite verdot and san giovese to name a few. My tasting notes from last year : Homemade Cranberry Sauce, full of character with a little "back of the throat" spice. Yum!
The second wine is a "declassified" restaurant darling from Monterrey County, the Samantha Starr Chardonnay. For more information on declassified wines, ask miss Katie. This is quintessential California Chard with big, tropical notes and a creamy lusciousness. If you are missing your big meaty red wines this summer this might be just what the doctor ordered. By the way, if you are at work, don't google "Samantha Star" by accident. Ok, maybe do it real quick, just for fun.
I can't wait to put these on the menu this Wednesday for everyone to try ( or try again, as the case may be for some of you). I'm already scheming up some fabulous dishes to pair=)
